Negan and The Walking Dead Prologue Clip

Walking Dead

The most important moments in last night's mid-season finale of The Walking Dead happened after the show ended.

During the first commercial break of AMC's new show, Into the Badlands, they aired a two minute scene promoting the second half of The Walking Dead. The scene doesn't give too much away, but sets up our next major "bad guy" Negan.

It's the first time the character's name has been introduced on the show, but the character has been teased for a couple of weeks in ongoing news reports. Jeffrey Dean Morgan (Supernatural) has signed a deal with AMC to play the character, who won't make an official appearance until the season finale next year.

In the comics, Negan has become known as one of the most vile villains, far surpassing The Governor (who dominated the story arc in the show's third season). He is the leader of a group of over 50 survivors in Washington, DC called the Saviors, who subjugate other communities in the area for resources in return for their protection against zombies. The character's appearance is based on Henry Rollins, as confirmed by Charlie Adlard himself and his excessive use of profanity was worked in by Robert Kirkman's own vernacular and derived from other people he knew.

The Walking Dead is officially on winter break, but returns Feb. 8 at 9 p.m. ET on AMC.
