Captain America: Civil War Trailer Released

Captain America: Civil War

Marvel dropped their much-discussed Captain America: Civil War trailer during tonight’s Jimmy Kimmel Show. I guess Disney wanted to dominate the movie news cycle for another day absent any real Star Wars reveals.  Of course, Disney using the ABC late night talk show to drop major trailers and cast appearances has become something of a pattern for the last few years, so beyond the fact that The Force Awakens doesn’t arrive in theaters for another few weeks this isn’t that much of a surprise. Actually, in retrospect, this early drop is a way to not get lost amid the 8,000 other trailers debuting with Star Wars next month, so good show on that account. Anyway, now we have the first official trailer for Captain America: Civil War, and it’s frankly a doozy. Not only does it look quite exciting, it establishes a few very important items.

Captain America: Civil War picks up where Avengers: Age of Ultron left off, as Steve Rogers leads the new team of Avengers in their continued efforts to safeguard humanity. After another international incident involving the Avengers results in collateral damage, political pressure mounts to install a system of accountability and a governing body to determine when to enlist the services of the team. The new status quo fractures the Avengers while they try to protect the world from a new and nefarious villain.

Joining Evans and Downey Jr. in the film are Scarlett Johansson as Natasha Romanoff/Black Widow, Anthony Mackie as Sam Wilson/Falcon, Paul Bettany as The Vision, Jeremy Renner as Clint Barton/Hawkeye, Don Cheadle as Jim Rhodes/War Machine and Elizabeth Olsen as Wanda Maximoff/Scarlet Witch, Sebastian Stan as Bucky Barnes/Winter Soldier alongside Chadwick Boseman as T’Challa/Black Panther, Emily VanCamp as Sharon Carter/Agent 13, Daniel Brühl as Baron Helmut Zemo, Frank Grillo as Brock Rumlow/Crossbones, William Hurt as General Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross, and Paul Rudd as Scott Lang/Ant-Man. The film will also debut Marvel’s new Spider-Man, played by Tom Holland.

Directed by Anthony and Joe Russo from a screenplay by Christopher Markus & Stephen McFeely, Captain America: Civil War will be released on May 6, 2016.
