The Netflix drama, House of Cards was accidentally made available to anyone with a Netflix account yesterday.

The first 10 episodes of the third series which, will premiere in its entirety in the UK and US on Friday February 27, were leaked for a 25-minute period. Although Netflix quickly recognized the glitch and took the series down, those who had already streamed the episodes were allowed to continue watching.

A representative for Netflix said in a statement: "Due to a technical glitch some Underwood fans got a sneak peak." And, referring to Kevin Spacey's character, the representative said: "He'll be back on Netflix on Feb 27. #NoSpoilers."

This statement appeared on the House of Cards Twitter account, acknowledging the error in a light-hearted fashion.

Since it began in 2013, House of Cards, based on the BBC series from 1990, has attracting much praise from critics. Writing for the Telegraph, Benjamin Secher said: "In his meticulous portrayal, Spacey seems to doff his cap affectionately towards [Ian] Richardson’s unforgettable performance, then swerves off to coin a fascinating, contemporary manipulator that is all his own."

The third series of the drama, reportedly the last, will show how Underwood and the First Lady (Claire, played by Robin Wright) fare as world political leaders. Watch the trailer here.
