Piranha 3DD Review :A Long Wait For Nothing?
After the terror unleashed on Lake Victoria in Piranha 3D, the pre-historic school of blood thirsty piranhas are back. This time, no one is safe from the flesh eating fish as they sink their razor sharp teeth into the visitors of summer's best attraction, The Big Wet Water Park.
Right when news of a sequel broke I was excited. I was sure that we would be in for a film that had horror, comedy and a decent story with a cool plot to tie right in with the remake titled Piranha 3D. Sadly this is not what I received,I was in fact treated with a poorly executed sequel that, sorry to say, only deserves a straight-to-video release.
Piranha 3DD has it's few pluses. There is plenty of nudity along with many of gory kills, but that's all it has to offer. The film seems to start off strong with a breakdown of the aftermath at the lake told news style, then we are thrown into the "Busey" pulling a dead cow out of the water (I thought they were harvesting Piranha eggs at first but soon found out this wasn't the case). There really is no rhyme or reason why their getting this cow out of the lake, the just are. Moving on from that we see that the fishes are making their way to new places by way of underground lakes, but we only see this after a few lame (and I mean LAME) sex scenes and kills.
In act 2 we see the return of Mr. Lloyd who actually brings some life to this so far dull film, but sadly his role is nowhere near the size it should have been. He explains what we already know, then bing, bang, boom where back at the water park. The second cool role reprisal is Ving Rhames. His scenes are ones that I really enjoy and had me actually loving the film for a small time frame. He is funny, badass and able to act better then 98% of the cast. Surprisingly though David Hasslehoff is funny in this film and does and a bit of cred to the film, but again very under used. From there you can guess where this film goes and then it ends almost exactly like the first film.
Now should you see it, I would say sure but don't spend your money to do so. Wait for it to pop up on Netflix instant. The reason to see it is just because its a sequel, but it's not a very good one.
The biggest problem with this film is that there is very little continuity from part one to part two (kinda like how they did the new ghostrider). They dropped the angle of the giant piranha and kept them all at a medium size. You never learn the outcome of the previous main characters and finally this felt more like a parody of it's self. The film was more comedy with horror elements rather than a horror film with elements of comedy. The fist one was executed just right and it knew what it was doing. This one just became lost in itself.
I really don't think the film makers along with Bob and Harvey knew exactly what they were doing. And a major misstep was the script,it was just tossed together. But like a wise man said "What do expect from a film titled PIRANHA 3 DOUBLE D" so on that note I guess they got that part right. Basically just watch it for boobs, the end.
Rate this one a D+ for...wait for it....the Double D's
